The pachira (pachira aquatica) is a tropical plant whose flowers give edible nuts. Although native to South America, its symbolism is strongest in Asia. According to the Chinese tradition, its palmate leaves resemble hands that catch the good fortune of which the twisted trunk becomes the guardian.

Also popular in Japan and Taiwan, it is often used for ornamental purposes and makes a great housewarming gift by guaranteeing happiness and prosperity to the new home.

The fruits of the pachira are those of the work of art:
To the one who cherishes it, it will exalt his artistic passion and his interior.
To the one who invests, it guarantees a safe, even prosperous investment.

“The number of deaths from Covid-19 should be put into perspective in relation to deaths from other diseases.”

The reality of the risk from COVID-19

The plague epidemic in the 16th century

Plague fatality rate during the 16th century epidemic = close to 100%.

Nowadays

600,000  people die in France every year.

COVID-19 mortality rate = 0.05%.

Cancer = 150,000 people each year die of cancer; mortality rate = 0.25%, i.e. 5 times more.

0.19% die from alcohol or tobacco, neither of which is prohibited.

Fear or life

“What I fear most is fear.

Montaigne (at the time of the plague)

“You don’t die from being sick, you die from being alive.

“Death is part of life… Two news items. One good and one bad.

The bad news is that we are all going to die.

The good news is that the majority of us will die of something other than Covid-19.

André Comte-Sponville is also concerned about the duration of sanitary measures, such as the wearing of masks, and wonders about the fate of the younger generations.

“Are we going to sacrifice our children’s education to their grandparents’ health ?

« “I am not afraid of COVID19. A disease that kills 0.5% of the people who get it, there is no reason to panic.

Dying of cancer, dying of a stroke, or dying of COVID-19 I don’t see the difference.

But I don’t want to live in a country dominated by fear.

“If in 20 years’ time the virus is still there, will these measures still be in force ? “

“Imagine that our children risk spending their whole lives masked, forbidden to shake hands, to kiss … “

Visual artists are largely forgotten by the public authorities

The State proposes derisory measures to help visual artists. Whatever the case, the vast majority of painters, draughtsmen, sculptors, etc. who do not generate any turnover will not have access to the “exceptional aid” which will be reserved for the few artists

who manage to live or more often than not to survive on the sales of their works.

It is interesting to remember the immense generosity of the public authorities towards certain very privileged artists (see article Jeff Koons).
